The CARE Award recognizes organizations that are leaders in promoting a positive work-life balance for employees.SUMMARY:This position will manage the underwriting operations of the NRECA Group Benefits Trust (Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability programs), plan modeling, renewal and proposal rating, eligibility and participation policy, reporting for members and internal customers. Assesses impacts of program exceptions requested by co-op benefit administrators and CEOs. Evaluates pros and cons of unique situations requested by co-ops, applies judgment/experience and makes decision on these gray areas.Advises, counsels and makes recommendations on issues and policies affecting actuarial, underwriting, and financial practices. Tests new actuarial, underwriting and financial applications.PURPOSE AND MISSION: Provide health and welfare underwriting subject matter expertise to internal and external partners including internal product managers, communications, field representatives, proposal unit and consulting staff. Review and update job descriptions, assess strengths and weaknesses of existing team, make recommendations for training, development, staffing changes or enhancements if needed. Manage the transition of the proprietary rating system to calculate real-time rates and the pricing impact of plan design changes, to a new software platform. Responsible for implementing annual updates to this system due to changes in pricing assumptions and new product or option offerings. Oversee the underwriting process to ensure that the monthly renewals are delivered on time and are accurate. Build/manage longitudinal renewal tracking database. Monitor loss ratios by different groupings, such as state, plan type (Indemnity vs. PPO) and employer type.NRECA offers an exceptional compensation package and a world-class range of benefits! Solid people management skills (assessment, coaching, development) Very strong financial and analytical skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Planning and organizational skills to lead team 10 years experience in underwriting/actuarial work, including alternate funding arrangements. Ability to analyze situation, apply experience, make a balanced business decision
